WINTER HAVEN EMERGENCY SHELTER
We provide a winter emergency shelter in Montgomery County, MD. The shelter is open from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.. The shelter operates from December to March (actual dates may vary). Referrals are made through the Crisis Center, social services, or local hospitals. Eligible residents are women and children from the DC metro area. Contact the Crisis Center at 240-777-4000 for referral.
LIGHTHOUSE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM
The Lighthouse Transitional Housing Program for young homeless mothers between the ages of 18-25. They have no more than one child between the age of 0-5. Accepted residents are placed up to 1 year. This is a fee based program where residents are expected to work and develop skills that foster independence. Referrals resume May 2018 for DC Area
VAN BURIEN RESOURCE CENTER (opens 2018)
HDG offers a Resource Center that serves the entire homeless community. The center offers a variety of services. Call for days and times. Services offered include:
HDG offers GED classes and computer training. We also refer to other job training programs.
HDG assist client to gain employment. We provide job readiness classes that focus on resume writing, interviewing skills, and dressing for the interview. We help with job search and we network with employers to help secure interviews.
HDG offers life skills workshops to help clients with skills such as communication, managing your emotions, self-esteem, positive relationships, domestic violence support groups, healthy cooking, parenting, and more.
