We provide a winter emergency shelter in Montgomery County, MD. The shelter is open from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.. The shelter operates from January to March (actual dates may vary). Referrals are made through the Crisis Center, social services, or local hospitals. Eligible residents are women and children from the DC metro area. LIGHTHOUSE INITIATIVE PROGRAM
The Lighthouse Initiative Program is a transitional program for young homeless mothers between the ages of 18-25. They have no more than one child between the age of 0-5. Referrals much go through MC emergency services for placement. Accepted residents are placed up to 1 year. This is a fee based program where residents are expected to work and develop skills that foster independence.
HDG offers GED classes and computer training. We also refer to other job training programs.
HDG assist client to gain employment. We provide job readiness classes that focus on resume writing, interviewing skills, and dressing for the interview. We help with job search and we network with employers to help secure interviews.
HDG offers life skills workshops to help clients with skills such as communication, managing your emotions, self-esteem, positive relationships, domestic violence support groups, healthy cooking, parenting, and more.
