December 2, 2015 grand opening of the Lighthouse Transitional Housing Program
House of Divine Guidance, Inc. held its open house for our 1st transitional home in Silver Spring, MD., The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse provides shelter for homeless young mothers aged 18-25 with children under age 5 up to one year. The ribbon cutting was done by former president of the County Council, George Leventhal, representative from Congressman, Chris VanHollen and a representative from DHHS. A citation was also presented from County Executive, Ike Legget. The event was attended by representatives from various partner agencies like Sligo Adventist Church, Adventist Community Services, Digit2Grow Marketing, ShareBaby, and many others.
PHENOMENAL women rise conferenceHouse of Divine Guidance held its first annual Phenomenal Women RISE conference on August 10, 2013. Speakers included poetry by Radiance Talley, a 16 yrs old experiencing trails as a minority in a school for gifted students and minister Kendyl Lovelace as she dramatized her life of abuse and addiction through stones of burden. Many women were encouraged through the speakers and testimonies shared.
Services in local MD sheltersHouse of Divine Guidance works with local shelters to provide life skills training, job and computer training and activities to build women's self esteem. At Shepherd's Cove facility, we had the pleasure of working with Valerie Diane Clark, the first woman heavy weight boxer.

For the 3rd year Winter Haven in Partnership with Sligo Adventist Church in Takoma Park, MDThis year the Winter Haven Hypothermia Shelter expanded our reach to include men in addition to women and children. Volunteers help serve the residents. Many provide food, transportation assistance and entertainment, such as the young children who shares her musical talents. This year we have served more than 60 individuals ranging from newborn infants to senior citizens. The organization remains strong through the support of committed volunteers and donations from our supporters.
WINTER HAVEN AND LIGHTHOUSE FUNDRAISING BENEFIT EVENT
House of Divine Guidance held a mini concert by Doreen Vail (recording gospel artist, Stella Award nominee and motivational speaker). The event raised funds for the 2015 hypothermia shelter. It featured local performers and words of thanks from past shelter residents. Harvest Fun DayHouse of Divine Guidance partners with Interfaith Works and local business to host multiple events for the homeless throughout the year. Harvest Fun Day was one of many event hosted for shelter residents. The event was well attended by women from area shelters. It was a day of pampering, laughter, esteem building, and good food. House of Divine Guidance seeks opportunities to lift women up and remind them that they are special.
